What does equity work in the ISD involve?
The Issaquah School District’s equity work is supported by local dollars from our Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy, one of three school funding measures on the April 26 Special Election ballot.
What is equity in the ISD?
ISD’s equity work is about treating all children and students as the individuals that they are, not treating all children the same. Thatβs why they are deeply committed to ensuring that all students receive what they personally need to develop to their full potential and succeed, and to narrowing the achievement/opportunity gap between our highest and lowest performing students.
What are some of the ways that the work of ISD’s Equity Department benefits ALL students in the ISD?
β’ Provide professional development for the staff and community on equity and diversity topics.
β’ Provide professional development on trauma-informed practices.
β’ Provide translations of critical school information regarding accessing their students’ education, including online platforms, food and technology, and other such vital information for our families.
β’ Provide parent professional development to our culturally and linguistically diverse families on how to access information, especially for those new to the U.S. education system.
β’ Serve on the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support District Team, planning for an integrated academic and behavior intervention system to provide equitable outcomes for all students.
β’ Collaborate with various district departments to remove barriers of engagement to student learning.
β’ Provide staff with a monthly equity newsletter with timely resources and tools for supporting students, creating safe and welcoming classroom environments and growing instructional practices.
