State Court fines Washington State Legislature $100,000 a day over education funding
In its original court ruling, and repeated in later follow-up rulings, the justices have told the Washington State Legislature to find a way to pay for the reforms and programs they had already adopted, including all-day kindergarten, smaller class sizes, student transportation, pay for school employees and classroom supplies, and to fix the state’s over reliance on local tax levies to pay for education. Relying heavily on local tax levies leads to big disparities in funding between those school districts that can pay and those that can’t.
We are fortunate that the Issaquah School District community recognizes the importance of covering the funding gap and CAN by continuously passing our Bonds and Levies. ISD has also been recognized for its fiscal management by earning the highest bond rating of any school district in the state.
