Literature Drops

Many attendees at the November 4 campaign kickoff signed up to do lit drops in their neighborhoods. Others have volunteered through their PTAs. Lit drop pieces will be ordered in mid December. We need to know how many pieces to order. If you would like to do a lit drop contact Leslie Warrick at jimandleslie@ihmail.com and let her know which elementary attendance area you live in, the name of your neighborhood or development, and how many lit drop pieces you need. The lit drops should be completed by January 25.

Preschool Outreach

Many parents of preschoolers don’t understand the importance of these school levies to their children – levies passed this February will fund our schools from 2015 to 2018. We want their votes this February and we want to start educating them now about the role of levies in funding local schools. How can you help? If you know a parent who has a child in a preschool in the District ask them if they will contact the school director to find out if they can distribute the District fact sheet to parents. We can deliver fact sheets to them. Contact Neva Luke at bigmom2g@msn.com. The fact sheets should be delivered by January 25.

Mark your calendars for Honk & Wave on January 30 and February 10

We will need volunteers to wave signs at 13 key intersections in the District from 6:30 am – 8:30 am and 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm both days. More information will be provided regarding locations in January.

In the know…

ISD has three levies that will expire next year unless voters approve to renew them on February 11, 2014. One of those is a four-year Capital Levy for Classroom Technology and Critical Repairs. Did you know that the state contributes zero dollars toward purchasing computers, servers, printers, and classroom technology? In order to pay for these items, districts in our state must ask the local community for the funding. This levy also includes money for critical repairs for things like roofing, HVAC systems, portable classroom space and safety and security upgrades. This funding allows the district to take care of these items without taking money away from the classroom to pay for them.
